The Road to Success

Being successful takes planning and preparation. The following information and material should prove useful to anyone studying Actuarial Science.

What is an Actuary?

Actuaries are experts in evaluating the likelihood of future events, designing creative ways to reduce the likelihood of undesirable events, and decreasing the impact of undesirable events that do occur.

As a professional actuary, you will align yourself with an actuarial society and test to meet requirements for membership in them. The following links will give you more information about the two most prominent societies in the US.

Actuarial Exams

Both actuarial societies will require you to take exams. The following information is for the four preliminary exams they share in common.

ASM Study Manuals for all the following exams are available to you in the McDermott Library.
