FEBRUARY 16, 2012
5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
McDermott Library, McDermott Suite, MC 4.4Yes, we are all creative! Creativity animates humanity and is a critical aspect of survival. Enhanced through awareness, creativity spurs more creativity.
In this presentation, Dr. Ruch will sketch the origins of creativity and ways to enhance it. She will describe some significant female and male differences that play out in our expressions of creativity and leadership. As leaders, women enrich families, improve communities, and strengthen social connections.
Four stories illuminate women’s creative leadership approaches that inspired transforming change. Responding to change or changing on purpose? Dr. Ruch presents some tricks to invoke creativity and finesse change.
Dr. Ruch teaches Creative Process at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas). She has worked in Dallas for more than 25 years where she maintained an independent counseling practice working with women and couples. Hilda has also taught courses at Texas A&M University at Commerce, The University of Texas at Arlington, Richland College, and Brookhaven College.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)
- Do you have an accounting background or enjoy helping others with their taxes?
- Do you enjoy challenges or problem solving??
If you don't see what all the dreaded fuss of preparing taxes is about, you may be the perfect person to volunteer income tax assistance! Free income tax preparations are provided by the IRS and volunteer organizations for low-income people, the elderly and the military [source: IRS].
Volunteering income tax assistance is a very valuable and much-needed use of your time. You can help low-income families get the most money back that they can, or assist elderly people who might not otherwise be able to file the returns on their own.
-
VITA is seeking volunteers to help prepare taxes and are in need of bilingual persons to ensure their services are efficient and family friendly. There will be training provided for tax preparers.
- VITA is also seeking a Intake Specialist to ensure there is a welcoming atmosphere for the families.
- The hour requirement of service has been relaxed, if a student wants to volunteer for a few hours each week that is fine.
This is a wonderful way to not only develop or enhance your accounting skills but also a wonderful chance for you to develop customer service skills, communication skills as well as make a difference in someone's life!
For more information, please contact Annie Benjamin at annie.benjamin@utdallas.edu and I will be more than happy to provide you with more information on how you can make a difference in our community!
