Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should I join FSA?

A: If you're interested in free food, fun, dancing, sports, creating new friendships, joining a study group, or learning about Filipino culture, we have plenty to offer you! FSA events are fun to attend, and we're very friendly!  You can also find students within the same major where you can discuss career paths, courses/professors you should take in the future, and how you can build your resume using FSA.

Q: Do I have to be Filipino?

A: NO, you do NOT have to be Filipino! Newcomers often have this misconception about our organization. We welcome students of ALL races.

Q: How do I join?

A: Check us out on Facebook and 'like' or page! Or, take a look at our Calendar and attend one of our upcoming events/meetings!  Or, send us an email that you're interested in joining!  You can also join our Facebook group and follow us on Twitter to get announcements.

Q: What's Goodphil?

A: Goodphil is a three day competition held during spring break between the FSAs of Texas universities. The competition is split up into two parts: dancing and sports events. The dance portion includes cultural, spirit, and modern dancing. The sports portion includes football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and softball.

Q: What are Kuyas, Ates, and Adings?

A: In Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines, "Kuya" means older brother, "Ate" means older sister, and "Ading" means younger sibling.  In FSA, we have a Kuya/Ate/Ading program where we pair the new members with older members. This allows them to become more familiar with our organization and UTD. We hold Kuya/Ate events throughout the year such as lunches, dinners, rock climbing, bowling, etc.
